8 Rockitudes

Sa tinagal-tagal ko nang nag pe-perform ng kung anuanong pagiging front-man, actor, dancer, instrumentalist, teacher, etc., I've noticed, kahit papano, a significant amount of growth. So basically, I've learned a lot of things from starting this career up to here now and I'm yet so halfway there!

And so here I list a few of the things I think are very important to know or do or have if you're in the entertainment industry - local or national.

Don't drop character
Whether you're portraying yourself or someone else, when you're onstage, you gotta be what you gotta be - lalo na kapag may sablay ka; find a way to cope up the mistake in template parin with your character.

Give it your best shot
Whether you play in front of 5 or 50k audiences, excellence should not differ. Di porket konti lang sila, parang noobs nalang ang tugtog mo.

Practice
Practicing and preparing are the "pre" processes of performances and as much as the ends are important, I'd say the final act and the journey are found both on the same stage and spotlight Practice doesn't make anything perfectly efficient - we're not robots. Practice gives us mastery. Cherish practice time and prepare what is necessary. Anyway, we people usually can't do more than how we did in rehearsals.

Passion
Be motivated by something bigger than you. Perform for the immaterial. Don't be motivated by money alone ore pagiging sikat, etc. 'coz in the end you'll find you've been vain and in vain. Remember that self-indulgence always leads to self-destruction. Let's play to add something to humanity.
Passion - have it. It's the fuel to your fire.

Affect
Don't let your audience affect your performance. Let your performance affect your audience. You're the one who writes songs, has the mic, is on stage - you're the one with the influence. Even if you're stuck in a boo-ing audience, you can turn the situation upside down.
And be careful too about the songs you write or the content of your performance - be sure no one is, generally, hurt or is turned to depression, angered, negatived, etc. in the big picture.
Pursue positivity.

Professionalism
Don't be unreasonably tardy either in performances or rehearsals. Tardy sucks. It wastes a lot of time. If God we're a late-comer, the population might have been a you short. Kung totoo kaya yung movie nina J.T. na "In Time", malamang ba'y patay ka na?

Team Play
Cater the need for your specialty and let other performers do what they're good at. Even if you're going solo, you're still part of the big big collection of all of us who go on stage. Be happy for others who succeed and serve your purpose in humility. Wag na tayong makipagtaasan ng ihi kasi walang pagalingan sa ating larangan. Let's enrich each other and support each other. Peace, Love, Rakenrol!

Enjoy
Enjoy and portray your enjoyment. If you can't enjoy your performance, how can you share the enjoyment? It doesn't mean naman na yung sarili mong preferences lang ang iisipin mo. Siyempre pag dating sa stilo ng tugtugin o act icoconsider mo yung taste ng target market mo - ibang usapan yan.
If you love what you're doing and are passionate about it, you'd enjoy it no matter what ups and tumbles go around it.

Not all of us are called to perform. And to the called, not all of us are born from a boombox. But we all got the potential to do greater stuff than we could ever imagine. We are all destined for greatness! No one is born in this world unequipped. Every one has got a place for the unfathomable painting of the universe rakenrol hebigat hardcore head bang.

Alalahanin mo ang mga pilay na kumakayod.

Where there is fire, bring gasoline. Let's dream with our minds and dream with our hands! Let's color in and out the lines and all over the page - let's not let our limitations limit us!

Make music, not "out" in public.

Here's a video of my former band "Metanoeo" performing 3 years ago in Gensan.
I'm the one kissing the microphone.
